Demographics Do you know how many people live with disabilities in North America? Approximately 17 percent of all North Americans, almost fifty-five million people, live with a disability. This represents a significant - and growing - segment of the population which actively participates in the economic life of our society. As the population ages and the birthrate declines, persons with disabilities will represent a greater proportion of the North American workforce. Approximately 40% of people who have disabilities are unemployed. This represents a pool of talented, potentially productive people who are overlooked.
